In the middle of the last century in Barcelona the Spaniard Enrique Bernat came into the inheritance. As soon as Enrique got up to speed and brought the company to prosperity, he made an unexpected and fateful decision.

At that time, the company produced about two hundred types of sweet products, it was decided to abandon all of them in favor of only one - caramels. It turned out that at that time no one produced caramel specifically for children at all.

The sweetness offered by Enrique differed from competitors in that it could be eaten. Usually, after eating caramel, children got sticky hands. What did the kids do? They wiped their palms on clothes. And that caramel, which Enrique developed, was located on a stick. She could be sucked as if holding on a fork.

At the same time, the clothes would not get dirty. Initially, the stick was wooden, but then they began to make it plastic. In addition, if usually caramel was placed in the store behind the seller, then the new product was placed right in front of the cashier, where children could take it.

The new caramel got the name "Chups" (from the word chupar - "to suck"), it originally had only seven flavors: orange, strawberry, chocolate, mint, lemon, coffee with cream and strawberry with cream. With the growth of popularity, not only the volume of production increased, but also new tastes appeared. It was no longer possible to sell caramel in the former modest wrapper, something original was needed. After all, the product was supposed to become recognizable.

In 1961, a resident of Barcelona turned to his most famous compatriot, the artist Salvador Dali, for help. He did not think long about the request to portray something memorable. In just an hour, a sketch of a picture of the Chupa Chups chamomile was created. In a slightly modified form, it is still the recognizable face of the brand today. The new logo is simply located not on the side of the candy, but on top. The first slogan of the product was "It is round and long."

By that time, the bulk of the Chupa Chups sold fell on Spain itself - 90%. However, very soon the figure changed dramatically. As soon as Enrique realized that he had attacked a gold mine and his product was guaranteed success, Granja Asturias was renamed Chupa Chups. And in the late 1960s, Chupa Chups came to a neighboring country, France. The first overseas branch of the company appeared there, together with the opening of a second factory in the homeland.

Twenty years later, the whole world already knew about the lollipop. The sweet was sold in America and Great Britain, Denmark, Japan, and Portugal. Offices and factories have sprung up in several countries. It was Chupa Chups that became the first candy that traveled to space - in 1995 it ended up on the Mir space station.

And in 1991, caramel came to Russia. The first office was opened in St. Petersburg. Initially it was planned to create only a representative office of the company, but the popularity of the product turned out to be so great that a couple of years later a factory for the production of Chupa Chups appeared in the city on the Neva.

Today the company produces not 7, but fifty flavors. More than two thousand employees work in the factories of the company, the caramel itself is available in 170 countries of the world. The sweet caramel has sales of over $ 400 million.
